I'm back from the Netherlands, where Miller learned to walk and talk while Elisa and I continued to work away at our new novels. My novel's not finished yet, but I do have a new essay about love and writing and reading up on The Rumpus. And a new story called "Midhusband" will be out in the October issue of Commentary magazine. A longer version of that story will be included in a cool new anthology edited by Derek Rubin called Promised Lands, due out in November. Also out in November will be a great anthology edited by the ever-more-lovely Elisa Albert. It's an anthology about siblings called Freud's Blind Spot and I somehow managed to get an essay of mine included in it about my two brothers.
And here's a photo of Miller in Holland. Despite the outfit, he told me he was rooting for Spain all the way.....
Thanks to my wife, the amazing writer Elisa Albert, I'll be the "Visiting Writer" at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) from February through July. Miller might take his first steps while wearing clogs. And hopefully Elisa and I will both return with drafts of our new novels. Here's a photo of Miller making decisions about what he wants to read next.
